What is the Step by Step Run?
The Step by Step Run promotes healthy living and supports social and recreational activities in the Royal Oak Shrine Parish Community. We encourage everyone in this community to participate by running, walking, volunteering, or simply cheering on participants!
How long is each event?
The 5K Run is a certified USATF 5K race route (3.1 miles).
The Fun Run/Walk is approximately 1.5 miles.
Will there be a staggered start?
Yes, the 5K run will begin at 8:30 and the 1.5 mile run/walk will begin a few minutes after.
Are there separate finish lines for the 5K and 1.5 mile?
The 5K and the 1.5 TIMED runners will finish on the same line as the start, on the eastbound side of Northwood Blvd.
The 1.5 mile UNTIMED participants will finish on the westbound side of Northwood Blvd.. See maps for additional details.
Can the Step by Step 5K Run be walked?
No, the 5K run cannot be walked due to city restrictions limiting the period of time Crooks Road is closed.
Is the Step by Step Run a timed race?
The 5K race for all participants is a timed event. Chips can be picked up on race morning at the registration tent (runners can register for the 5K race and chose not to be timed by not picking up a chip on race morning).
1.5 Mile Run/ Fun Walk:
There is a timed and untimed option for the 1.5 mile Run/ Fun Walk. The timed option is only for participants 13 and under. Youth who have registered for the TIMED option can pick up chips for this event on race morning at the registration tent.
The 1.5 mile Fun Walk is an untimed event.
Who does the timing for the eligible events?
We are pleased to be partnering again with Rotpac Racing for the timing of these events.
Will the results be posted?
The race results from the timed event will be posted on the following websites: www.stepbysteprun.com and www.runmichigan.com.
Is the 5K route certified by USATF?
Yes! The route has been certified by USATF.
Are strollers allowed?
Baby strollers and the like are allowed in the 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Baby joggers are allowed in the 5K provided the runners line up in the back of the pack when starting and keep a safe distance from other runners while on the course.
Are there any race restrictions (pets, bicycles, etc)?
Dogs, bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, roller-skates, scooters, and any other wheeled apparatuses except wheel chairs and baby joggers are strongly discouraged on the course.
What is the route of each race?
The 5K Run route: Begins on Northwood Blvd. at the Roseland intersection, travels east down Northwood Blvd. across Crooks to Vinsetta Blvd. heading east, loop back down Vinsetta, cross Crooks to Murdock/Lloyd back to Northwood Blvd. ending at Shrine Church. Click here to view the 5k Run route.
The 1.5 Fun Run/Walk: Begins on Northwood Blvd. at the Roseland intersection, travels east down Northwood Blvd. to the last turnaround before Crooks Road and heads back west on Northwood Blvd. ending at Shrine Church.

Will there be awards?
5K Participants - Awards will be given to the top female and male overall finishers, to the top three finishers in each age division and to all participants 14 and under.
1.5 Mile Participants – certificates/ribbons for participation will be awarded.
Where will the proceeds from the event go?
The distribution of the race proceeds each year will be based upon the needs and recommendations of the Athletic Directors and Administration of the schools in conjunction with the race coordinators.
How do I register?
Simply click the REGISTER button to begin. You may also register the day of the event (t-shirts will only be available on a first come first serve basis).
Where do I pick up my timing chip and number?
Chips and numbers can be picked up the morning of the race between at 7:30- 8:15am at the race start.
